The artistic duo Ttozoi arrives at Colosseum in Rome for a new iconic and unique chapter of their Genius Loci project. A travel between present and past, visible, and invisible, memory and traces, places, and nature: an entire archive of abstract memories, among games of color and light that merge over time, between the ancient charm of History and the creativity of contemporary art.

Here presented some unpublished images of the really first result of a process that will be concluded and officially presented in autumn 2022 but that preannounce:

“A form that we can only speculate about but never really predict with certainty. Feeding only on the organic part, the spores will interact with the work in an unknown pattern, seemingly chaotic but actually governed by the laws of nature and our hands.”

Since 2017, the artistic duo tries to capture the real soul of historical places in a relationship between past and present. Genius Loci was realized in many historical UNESCO sites including The Royal Palace of Caserta, Caserta, Italy (2018); the Pompei Amphitheatre, Naples, Italy (2018); Fort Point, Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, USA (2019); the Campanian Antitheater of Capua, Italy (2021). In April 2022, TTOZOI started a dialogue with one of the most iconic places for western culture: The Colosseum in Rome.

The artists create the works in situ becoming the creators of the so-called “intervention gap”, a real wait, following the simultaneous action of four hands on the canvas, during which, nature blooms in the form of molds.

The results are rough and abstract inner landscapes, suspended between time and matter, where traces and signs on the canvas are the unpredictable result of a sui generis process that finds its pictorial character and its constitutive element in the natural proliferation of life.

The interaction with places is not limited to something purely formal but acts on a wider process that encompasses visible and invisible, memory and present, history and culture, individual and community.

What we see in ttozoi’s canvases takes us beyond pure form, leading the viewer into the stratification of memory through intimate interior landscapes, as unique as the places that generated them. Nature actively interacts with the work initiated by the artists, conquering the space and feeding on the organic part, according to an unknown and always different scheme.

What result should we expect from this last chapter in Colosseum in Rome?
