A portrait of you, everywhere
How long are you waiting to travel again? Time is up, get ready to take a one-of-a kind trip where you will be the protagonist! Imagine you, standing in a place and travelling around the world. You can choose the destination. Are you thinking about a memory or a desire to reach? How could it be? The new series by Daniele Sigalot “A portrait of you” made it possible.

The new project by Daniele Sigalot was showcased for the first time with a one-year exhibition titled “A portrait of Everyone, Everywhere” (2020-2021) at Milano’s Door at Milano Malpensa Airport. Inspired by his own nomadic attitude, the artist translates this condition into artworks and presented it in the place that symbolizes the journey par excellence: an airport

The show met the eyes of thousands of travelers, make them go everywhere, and now it’s ready to flight around the world. The exhibition featured 12 installations representing the topographies of 12 different city from all over the world, engraved on a reflective stainless-steel surface
“During my life I lived in different cities around the world and where I was moving to a new place, I always fund out the something was changed in me. Places where we live in shape ourselves and influence our way of living, thinking, perceiving, and experiencing every single element of our lives. I would like to translate it through a common alphabet, which is at the same time, almost invisible”. Daniele Sigalot
The artist modelled the material through laser cutting: Shaping the material, he shapes the image of what is reflected, especially human figures. Working on forms, lines, geometries, and veins of the cities, he reflects on the meaning of places in forming our identity.
“Moving around has become almost a necessary habit. If I think hard about it, the Installation at Malpensa gives me a unique opportunity, that of going to an airport without having to leave for anywhere. I loveairports, it’s quite bizarre but io feel like home.” Daniele Sigalot
“A portrait of you” series exhibited at Milano Malpensa Airport reflects on cities those were significant for the artist, epitomizing his nomadic attitude. Placed in 5 different continents, The artworks let the viewer do an inner travel before a physical one. The face and the body of the travelers are in Milan, and yet they could be in any other part of the world: New York or London, Beijin or Moscow, Buenos Aires or Berlin, Cape Town, orRome and so on.
“The artist puts the image of the traveler back at the center of the piece, reflected in twelve supermirror steel sheets arranged in two semicircles, where someone will be superimposed on the maps of as many cities from around the world engraved on the reflective background, familiar places, places close to their heart, that they have always dreamed of visiting, or that they don’t even know.” Luca Beatrice, art curator and critic.
Although the artworks are placed in a “Non-space”, according to the theory of the philosopher and anthropologist Marc Augè, in this case the space connotes the artworks with a dense meaning. Airports represent the symbol of the journey and pieces, placed into it, amplified the imperceptible passage of travellers in a suspension of time and space. Artworks offer a way to escape from that place, reimaging themselves around the world, flying with imagination.
From his personal biography and topography Daniele Sigalot realized something in which everyone can replacing into it, representing places that changed his life and make him the person who is now. The series is an ongoing project that wants to flight from Milano to everywhere searching places and people, memories, and travels, faces and stories to be mirrored in.
